The project s purpose is Editing and Commenting the german Versnovellistik ("Mären") of the 13./14th. Centuries. The Corpus consists of 172 narratives (approximately 72 000 lines of edited text; a total of 179.000 lines are passed on in the manuscripts) and includes the 113 narratives formerly intended to be published in Heinrich Niewöhner s "Neues Gesamtabenteuer", of which merely Volume 1 with 37 narratives has ever been published. In addition, and to overcome too narrow definings of this type of narratives, other texts that are closely related to the Corpus via the passing down manuscripts have been included in the project s Corpus. As a pragmatical decision, those narratives already published in more recent Author- and Corpuseditions have been excluded. The Edition s structure and formation follows strictly the manuscript s record. The Edition aims to be non-reconstructive, follows the Leithandschriftenprinzip, includes, if needed, Paralleldarbietung, allows transparency via Transcriptions and Faksimiles and will be available in printed version as well as online. The project s most important goals are to provide an elaborate but legible text, to depict narratives handed down in only one version as well as give a survey on the variance of all the versions of a narrative. The Commentary of each narrative justifies and explains a narrative s formation and presentation, provides comprehending assistance and therefore grants non-experts access to the Edition. The project consists of two workgroups, in Tübingen and Cologne (Köln).
