Term
from 2008 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 43659573
We focus on the research and development of highly energy efficient and highly temperature stable vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) and nanometer-scale VCSELs for near-term and future applications in optical data communications and optical high performance computing communications. We develop VCSELs using innovative epitaxial semiconductor crystalline designs on a quantum mechanical scale, and advanced nanophotonics structures to explore the fundamental limits of energy efficiency and high-frequency operation, and the impact of cavity quantum electrodynamics effects on the performance of ultra-small nanometer-scale laser devices.
