...A combination of the complementary fields of expertise will allow to achieve advanced functionality in patterned nanostructures. Such functionality will be demonstrated in, for example, ideal bilayer structures, where full gate controllability is obtained not only from the front side but also from the back. The studies on bilayer systems have far-reaching implications for semiconductor based quantum information processing. The combined Japanese-German expertise will allow for exciting experiments on spin injection, novel tube semiconductors and semiconductor nanomechanical systems. Thus newly developed spintronics and nanomechanics, will be of great significance for future science and technology and it is foreseeable that the results of this project will have a worldwide impact on semiconductor nanoelectronics...
