Project Details
Water mass structure in the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean: Relationship to oxygen variability and geochemical properties (A05)
Subject Area
Oceanography
Term
from 2008 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 27542298
The joint hydrographic and geochemical tracer study of the tropical oceans with focus on the eastern tropical South Pacific will be continued to investigate trends of the dissolved oxygen and nutrient distribution over the past 50 years and the advection-dependent factors driving nutrient utilization. Foci will be the linkage between oxygen and nutrient variability and climatic signals, as well as final model-data comparisons, and the factors controlling nitrogen and silicon utilisation in seawater of the eastern tropical Pacific oxygen minimum zone, which will be tackled through a mesocosm experiment and by direct comparison between nutrient utilization and micronutrient distributions in the water column.
