The transition to publication-based funding and increasing the open access rate as far as possible is a major challenge for TUM due to its research and publication strength. As far as possible, centralized contracts must be concluded with publishers. Where this is not possible or reasonable, individual open access publications must be supported. The new central funding structure that has been in place since 2024 has created the conditions for a significant increase in the funds available for the open access transformation. However, the funds available are currently not sufficient to support all publications worthy of funding. The funds requested in this DFG proposal are intended to help close this gap and enable the funding of publications in gold open access journals that are not covered by the central contracts.
