This transfer centre consists of one single project of the same name.Within the scope of the former collaborative research centre 193 "Biological Treatment of Industrial Wastewater" different methods for the separation of surfactants from rinsing waters have been examined.Based on the promising results of the surfactant removal by membrane processes in the project E 4 the know-how is transferred from model solutions to the treatment of real rinsing waters from the production of liquid detergents. This is to be achieved through a close cooperation with our industrial project partner, the Henkel Genthin GmbH.The starting point for further investigations is a detailed balance of the specific water and product streams of the entire plant. Apart from pure surfactants additional components like salt, ethyl alcohol, surfactant mixtures, dyes and perfumes have to be considered, too. Therefore further experiments have to be performed in order to evaluate the influence of the multi-component mixtures on the filtration performance and the quality of the product streams (permeate and product concentrate) and to adapt the process conditions if necessary. Pilot plant experiments are performed on the Henkel site in order to prove the feasibility. In the following the potential for internal process water recycling will be shown and a reduction of wastewater disposal costs can be achieved by a systematic optimisation of the entire water and wastewater management.
