TFB 19: Bau eines prototypischen ASIC-Chips zur Echtzeitbildanalyse
Subject Area
Biology
Term
from 1999 to 2000
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5483866
This transfer centre integrates the knowledge about basic mechanisms of vision from the collaborative research centre 509 with the microelectronic know how of the University of the Bundeswehr and the associated microelectronic application centre Hamburg-Harburg (MAZ). The technical goal is the development and production of an ASIC-chip for real-time analysis of stereoscopic depth. Based on neuronal models of stereoscopic depth perception an algorithm was developed that combines the advantages of phase-based stereoalgorithms with those of cross-correlation procedures. The chip will realize these functions on an area of 30 mm2 and in this way will combine compactness and speed. The stereo chip shall for the first time allow to perform precise analysis of depth and motion in a visual scene with about double CCD camera frequency without reduction of the resolution.
