SFB 529:  Internationalität nationaler Literaturen

Subject Area Humanities
Term from 1997 to 2001
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5481274

The Göttingen Center for Advanced Study in the Internationality of National Literatures is dedicated to the exploration of interliterary and intercultural relations. We are centrally interested in interrogating the ways, means, modes, conditions, aims and effects of literary production (including the writing, publication, and mediation of literary texts) in the contexts of both source and target culture(s). It is our specific goal to take into account the internationality of literary modes of production in our analyses of the conceptual, typological, and material conditions of literary activities, and of hitherto neglected historical contexts. By placing particular emphasis on the "internationality of national literatures", our collaborative research centre 529 - rather than negating the national paradigm of literary historiography - instead strives to reintroduce, in both research and representative case studies, the international dimension that characterizes literary life.
