SFB 371:  Mikromechanik mehrphasiger Werkstoffe

Subject Area Materials Science and Engineering
Term from 1994 to 2003
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5479058

The collaborative research centre 371 is focussed on the complex problem how the external mechanical forces are transferred to a multiphase microstructure, what kind of local forces will result, what kind of deformation and failure will occur and how the macroscopic mechanical behaviour of the material is governed by the interaction of these micromechanical processes. Based on the gained scientific understandig, an optimisation of conventional materials and development of novel materials for advanced structural application is aspired. The collaborative research centre 371 is subdivided in four research areas: -- project area A "Microstructure and Mechanical Properties" (finished at the end of 1999); -- project area B "Modelling and Simulation"; -- project area C "Microstructure Design and Processes"; -- project area D "Application of Micromechanics". It is the specific feature of the collaborative research centre 371 that it combines the locally available research activities of the TUHH and the GKSS Research Centre, which cover processing, optimisation and application of complex metallic, intermetallic ceramic and polymer materials.
