SFB 353:  Pathobiology of Pain

Subject Area Medicine
Term from 1992 to 2003
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5478479

The aim of the collaborative research centre 353 is to study the pathophysiological mechanisms of clinically relevant pain conditions on different levels. The range of research extends from cellular and molecular studies over plastic changes in peripheral and central nociceptive neurons to clinical physiological studies with patients suffering from pain and itch. The collaborative research centre 353 is divided into three project areas. Project area A deals with the study of cellular mechanisms determining pain on different levels of nociception, and the effect of analgesics on these mechanisms. Project area B analyses structure and function of the nociceptive system in different models of pain, itch and hyperalgesia. In project area C there are projects dealing with measurement on healthy subjects and patients suffering pain.
