The subproject investigates the social construction of home(s) in human-place-plant-food arrangements in political projects of land occupation in Latin America. Our goal with this subproject is to observe the practices of activists in domestic and collective spaces, especially in communal kitchens and home gardens. The process of home-making will be examined in the interaction between social and individual attachments to territorial spaces, through case studies in which the possibility of having a house and a home depend on a collective project for occupation of a territory. Analytically, we will examine the practices, narratives, and strategies associated with home-making, and the meanings attributed to home. Our interpretations, based on empirical observations, will give us access to how home (casa or lar in Portuguese) is modeled where land, food, and politics are interwoven.
