Project Details
Fusion of the inner and outer nuclear membranes during nuclear pore complex assembly (P07)

The assembly of nuclear pores in interphase begins through the positioning of nuclear pore components on the inner nuclear membrane. This is deformed and ultimately fuses with the outer nuclear membrane. In the present proposal, we investigate how the integral membrane proteins Apq12, Brl1 and Brr6 fuse the two nuclear membranes during nuclear pore assembly using genetic, cell biological and biochemical methods. We are thus addressing an important question in cell biology with broad implications for aging and the development of cancer.
