Project Details
Nuclear membrane remodelling during pore complex insertion (P06)
Subject Area
Cell Biology
Term
since 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 511488495
The boundary of the nucleus is composed of a double membrane perforated by large protein channels, the nuclear pore complexes (NPCs). Insertion of new NPCs requires bending and fusion of the nuclear membranes and the mechanism of this remodeling remains enigmatic. Combining advanced imaging with acute protein degradation and lipidomic analysis, we will unravel the structure and molecular mechanism of membrane deformation during NPC assembly and thereby shed light on how different types of membrane remodeling processes were combined in evolution to generate the eukaryotic nucleus.
