SPP 1001:  Sensomotorische Integration

Subject Area Social and Behavioural Sciences
Term from 1996 to 2002
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5466674

The priority programme "Sensorimotor Integration" analyses the connection between sensory and motor systems and thus contributes to our understanding of an extraordinary important but largely neglected problem. Sensory and motor systems do not work in isolation but are tightly interconnected and refer to common modules. Therefore sensory information processing and action planning are intertwined on different levels. The main question of the priority programme is how complex movement patterns can be generated based on ambiguous sensory input, processed on a non-hierarchical level. To achieve this goal neurobiological and psychological labs which up to now worked in parallel are to be combined to pursue a shared goal. Step by step biological and psychological research plans are to be interconnected until, finally, labs from both disciplines work on joint experiments. Thus, this priority programme makes an important contribution to initiate a research group based on Faculties in Psychology and Biology which follow a common scientific vision.
