Conceptions of Home in German-Language Songs of the Early Modern Period (A05)
Subject Area
Musicology
Term
since 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 517096657
This subproject examines approximately 7,600 prints of songs from before 1650, using them as examples of how the repertoire has been affected by textual and musical representations of home(s). In the context of the early modern period, this is considered representative of a medium that could reach broad sections of the population through recitation and communal singing. Specifically, the subproject explores the discernible conceptions, denominative variations, and descriptions of home. Our working hypothesis is that, in the pre-modern era, representations of home multiply and reveal increasingly individual characteristics.
