In the current approach to perturbative calculations in Quantum Field Theory, one of the critical steps is to define a “basis” of Feynman integrals for the problem at hand. Once a basis is known, two issues remain. First, how to compute the integrals in the basis and, second, how to practically decompose scattering amplitudes onto this basis. While conceptual and practical problems in these two steps are very different, the past two decades have taught us that the specific choice of integral basis one makes has far reaching consequences for both. In this project, we will investigate this problem in the context of scattering amplitudes that evaluate to special functions defined on general geometries, including Calabi-Yau surfaces and higher genus curves.
