Human cells are exposed to stressors that can induce DNA- and RNA-protein crosslinks, thus interfering with different steps of gene expression. The molecular determinants regulating transcription and pre-mRNA processing in the presence of crosslinks remain poorly understood. We will investigate the molecular components that ensure fidelity of gene expression in the presence of DNA- and RNA-protein crosslinks. We anticipate our work to provide new understanding of how a specific type of DNA and RNA damage affects faithful gene expression throughout the lifespan of cells.
