TP5: Microkinetic analysis and operando FTIR of electro-catalysts for e-HP

Applicant Dr. Philipp Röse
Subject Area Chemical and Thermal Process Engineering
Term since 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 525028514

This project seeks to investigate the micro-kinetics in e-HP and identify similarities to t-HP. We use experimental electrochemical methods and infrared spectroscopy in combination with kinetic modeling and simulations. The investigation encompasses a range of catalysts, including mono- and bimetallic PdAux and PtAux nanoparticle catalysts and novel catalyst classes. By employing these methods, the project aims to understand the intricate relationships between catalyst structure and operating conditions and their impact on performance and selectivity. This fundamental knowledge will serve as a guide for refining catalyst design and operating conditions. Collaboration with TP-Behrens and TP-Strasser will facilitate the examination of synthesized catalysts. At the same time, cooperation with TP-Grunwaldt will involve operando spectroscopy to identify and compare surface species in both e-HP and t-HP. Additionally, collaboration with TP-Krewer will focus on exchanging reaction kinetic parameters and experimental data to investigate mass transport effects. The project will work closely with TP-Sauer and TP-Studt to establish microkinetic models for both processes, aiming to identify similarities between e-HP and t-HP. This collaborative effort seeks to substantiate the hypothesis of a unified concept between these two disciplines.
