Equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) technique will be used for consolidating mechanically alloyed/milled powders. An immediate scope of the project is to produce amorphous/glassy alloys by inexpensive and flecible route of mechanical alloying and consolidate them into bulk solid by ECAP. We intend to develop nanocrystalline and/or amorphous Al alloys by ECAP (using either pre-alloyed ingot or ball-milled powder), characterize the microstructure and mechanical properties and develop a mathematical model of consolidation of mechanically milled amorphous/nanocrystalline powders by ECAP. The model is expected to elucidate the role of ECAP processing in producing the desired microstructure and to help optimizing the processing conditions.
