Block copolymer-derived complex nanowires for nanoplasmonics

Subject Area Physikalische Chemie von Festkörpern und Oberflächen, Materialcharakterisierung
Experimentelle Physik der kondensierten Materie
Term from 2004 to 2015
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5428596

This project focusses on the preparation and characterization of nanorods and nanotubes of compound semiconductors such as CdSe, ZnSe or SnSe. Highly ordered porous templates with a high surface energy will be wetted with melts and solutions of single source precursor molecules of the type M(SeR)n (n=2 or 4; R = organic residue) or M(TeR)n. Depending on the surface energy of the liquid that will be brought into the pores and on the duration of the wetting process, either nanorods (from completely filled pores) or nanotubes (from pores with only the surface wetted) should be obtained. In order to optimize the process of grain formation and crystallization of the semiconductor nanoobjects, different families of precursor systems with variing residues R at the chalcogen and different additional donor ligands at the metal center will systematically be studied to make their decomposition characacteristics tunable. In addition, high temperature wetting of the ordered porous templates by melted compound semiconductors with subsequent very slow cooling will be performed to investigate the influence of a highly anisotropic geometry on the crystal structures of the obtained nanoobjects.
