Subject Area Synthesis and Properties of Functional Materials
Term since 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 542331373

This proposed research conceptualizes developing new (semi)conductive-inks formulation for printed electronic devices using synthetically tunable MOF-based porous templates by incorporating (semi)conductive precursors to tune optoelectronic, electrochemical features and net conductance in printed electronics. Innovations in the design of MOF-based conductive-inks formulation and printing conductive MOF films with customized structuring capabilities is the focus of this research that will certainly contribute to developing lowcost, rapid, and more efficient methods for fabricating technologically-relevant printed electronic devices. We aim (semi)conductive-inks formulation primarily to be examined for inkjet printing being a maskless, low-cost, digital, non-contact deposition method that is suitable for a variety of technologically-relevant manufacturing of photovoltaics, displays, thin-film transistors, electronics, and sensors. In terms of printing methods, it is planned to investigate further digital printing techniques of microplotting and capillary printing depending on the achievable ink parameters such as viscosity, particle sizes, pH and boiling point. Beyond the conventional functional materials (organic, inorganic oxide, or polymers), exploring new concepts and designing strategies, notably conceptually-novel inks formulation, offer opportunities for improvements in printed film properties/materials. Machine-learning approaches will be used to predict and assist in designing strategies to understand and select superior-performing ink components, their influence on printing and printed electronic devices.
