Vocational business education has adapt to rapid economic changes world-wide. As a prerequisite for this, it is important to understand how business trainees acquire their professional competences. Based on well-founded and empirically reliable insights into the microstructures of these processes and their conditions, strategies to optimise vocational training in schools or in companies can now be developed.Eighteen research projects worked on fundamental questions such as domain specific knowledge acquisition, storage and application, the analysis of accompanying processes of motivation and development of interest, the formation of professional competences, or the development of highly efficient teaching and learning arrangements - all with the objective to reveal practically relevant basic insights into the microstructures of business-related teaching-learning-processes on which to ground the construction of innovative techniques for the reform and enhancement of vocational education and training.
