This proposal is part of an ecosystem study that aims at a scientific basis for a sustainable management of the Munessa-Shashemene forest as a model for other semi-deciduous forests in Ethiopia. Within the proposed extension of the project, research activities will be widened to additional scientific disciplines. It is also foreseen to propagate the contributions of our Ethiopian counterparts and to involve more Ethiopian M.Sc. and Ph.D. students in the project. The intensification of the fieldwork at the Munessa-Shashemene forest and the increasing contributions of Ethiopian M.Sc. and Ph.D. students in the project require the establishment of a field laboratory in order to increase the working capabilities and to reduce the costs for accommodation and travelling. Co-funding will be provided by the Ethiopian Agricultural Research Organization and the Addis Ababa University.
