How does a flexible body need to be excited on a prescribed boundary, such that the motion on a spatially disjunct boundary can partly be specified? This seemingly simple question will be pursued in this research project. However, it turns out that classical methods that are based on a sequential solution strategy are not able to solve this inverse problem numerically stable. Instead, the key to successfully solving the problem lies rather in a simultaneous space-time integration of the underlying equations. This has been demonstrated in preliminary work carried out by the applicant. This research will not only be continued in this project but also extended to other problem classes.
