Within the research unit ‘The information backbone of robotized construction based on multiscale interlaced product-process modeling methods’ this sub-project will focus on the task of developing the required methods to allow for the strategic site-wide planning of robotic construction work. Automated construction will require the application of many different robots and automated equipment in close collaboration with several work crews on site. During this application, it is important that the capital-intensive robotic equipment can be used most productive, that robotic equipment will not interfere with itself, and, most importantly, that the safety of all workers on a construction site can be guaranteed. The allocation of this large number of human and robotic resources needs to be planned strategically for an entire construction site and for the entire duration of a construction project at the Master and weekly scheduling level. Such planning activities will require the development of a representation granularity that can link traditional strategic construction management representations on the Master and weekly schedule levels with the much more detailed and fine-grained representations of specific robotic tasks on the mechatronic robot level. With the requirement for such a different representation, this project will re-evaluate the applicability of currently available simulation and optimization modeling methods for construction work in light of robotic execution of construction tasks. This re-evaluation will be conducted in terms of how detailed simulation / optimization results will be meaningful to decision makers and are computational feasible.
