Two-component systems (TCSs) are emerging as important signal detection and transduction mechanisms in higher plants. Though several elements of plants´ two-component systems have been identified and initially characterized within the last few years, less is known about the molecular composition of plants´ TCSs, about the mechanisms and extent of cross-talk between different TCSs and with well-known other eukaryotic signaling pathways (network) and about their physiological functions. To elucidate the functions of the two-component signaling network which is unique to the higher eukaryote "plant", we will concentrate our work on the model organism Arabidopsis thaliana. A broad spectrum of scientific concepts, state-of-the-art techniques and methods will be applied to understand this signaling mechanism.
