Transient structures in condensed matter investigated by ultrafast x-ray techniques

Subject Area Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term from 2002 to 2009
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5372076

The priority program 1134 is devoted to studies of ultrafast structural changes and transient structures in condensed matter by ultrafast x-ray techniques. Structural changes occurring on a time scale between 10 fs and 10 ps are to be investigated by x-ray diffraction and absorption at photon energies > 1 keV. A central grant of the priority program is required for - providing bent crystal mirrors for spectral selection and imaging of hard x-ray pulses. Such key components are needed by all groups performing x-ray diffraction experiments within the priority program. The technology of manufacturing has to be improved and the manpower for production of such mirrors has to be increased. - manufacturing costs for 10 bent crystal mirrors, - travel and accommodation costs for visiting scientists. The coordinator of the priority program will manage the central grant, in close coordination with the research groups participating in the program.
