Project Details
Palladian gold mineralization in Brazil
Applicant
Professor Dr. Bernd Lehmann
Subject Area
Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry
Term
from 2002 to 2004
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5371521
The project aims at a better understanding of the formation of iron-oxide rich, high-grade palladian gold mineralization in Carajás (Serra Pelada), and Minas Gerais (Gongo Soco and Itabira). These deposits still defy mineralogical characterization and proper geological classification, and we have the opportunity to sample unique and hitherto unaccessible drillcore material. Microanalytical and bulk-rock geochemical work, together with fluid inclusion microthermometry, and radiometric dating techniques will assist in gaining insight into this peculiar gold-palladium mineralization style which may be related to the currently worldwide debated Fe oxide-Cu-Au deposit group.
