The goal of the current project is to obtain a complete understanding of particle assisted wetting. We propose here to systematically vary the shape, size and surface coating of paticles; select a set of non water soluble liquids and measure the contact angles liquid/water/particle, liquid/air/particle and water/air/particle. At the same time we apply mixtures of these particles with the organic liquids to a water surface and determine whether the mixture will spread as an even layer of whether the liquid will form lenses. This behaviour of the mixture will be correlated with the determined contact angles and the volume ratio between particles and liquid.
