Cyclic deformation behavior and macroscopic constitutive law of textured Magnesium sheet for multiaxial loading under consideration of microstructural deformation mechanisms

Subject Area Mechanical Properties of Metallic Materials and their Microstructural Origins
Computer-Aided Design of Materials and Simulation of Materials Behaviour from Atomic to Microscopic Scale
Term since 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 536280731

The aim of this project is the development of a scale-spanning 3D continuum mechanical material model for cyclic stresses of textured wrought magnesium alloys. The interactions between the micromechanical deformation mechanisms and the macroscopic discontinuous strain field, which have been largely unexplored so far, are to be investigated and taken into account. The focus is thus on gaining knowledge regarding the micromechanical deformation mechanisms, the evolution of plastic distortions and the cyclic anisotropic strain hardening behavior. The wrought magnesium alloy AZ31B sheets will be considered, since the applicants already have extensive results from preliminary work on this material. The following sub-objectives result from this objective: - Identification of the deformation mechanisms and the discontinuous macroscopic strain fields during cyclic loading; - Analysis of the evolution of plastic distortions; - Quantification of the anisotropic cyclic strain hardening behavior; - Formulation of a multi-scale model to describe the material law; - Development of a user-defined material routine for the FEM
