The ummixing of liquids in silicate-carbonatite, silicateborate, silicate-fluoride and silicate-phosphate systems will be investigated using the high temperature, high-pressure centrifuge furnace and autoclave. The partitioning of major elements, trace elements and oxygen isotopes between the immiscible liquid pairs will be determined using microprobe, ICP-AES and ICP-MS techniques. Additionally, the kinetics governing the separation of immiscible liquids and potential disequilibrium partitioning will be investigated. Applications will be made in igneous petrogenesis of P-rich magmas as well as a systemisation of results in order to examine the relationship between structure, energetics and partitioning.
