The instrument is going to be used as a research microscope to study cellular processes of live/fixed cells/tissue. The super-resolution detector will allow for exceeding the theoretical resolution limit, down to around 90 nm, and it will provide excellent signal-to-noise ratio and high sensitivity. With this technology we can resolve even smallest cell processes at short times and with low light intensities, which is particular important for live cell imaging. For our correlative light and electron microscopy especially the fast scan times at high resolution are important to allow scans of large volume in a reasonable time but also at a resolution that supports correlation with the EM images. For full support of live cell imaging an environmental chamber is available. The instrument will be placed in a microscopy core facility to serve as a central place for instrument-based services.
