Project Details
Plasticity of secondary walls to water limitation in the vasculature of Arabidopsis thaliana (B02)
Subject Area
Plant Cell and Developmental Biology
Term
since 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 512328399
B2 (Schneider) will investigate plasticity of cell-wall patterning in the plant’s water-conducting tissue, the xylem. The patterning of the cell wall in xylem cells determines the hydraulic conductivity of the xylem and is highly plastic to variation in the availability of water as a key resource. Using recently developed methods for high-throughput quantification of cell wall patterns by automated image analysis, the project will identify plasticity genes for xylem cell-wall patterning by quantitative genetics, facilitated by a high-throughput automated plate phenotyping system designed by the group.
