Project Details
Plasticity of root-hair density and patterning in Arabidopsis thaliana in response to resources (B01)
Subject Area
Plant Cell and Developmental Biology
Term
since 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 512328399
B1 (Sauer) studies the plasticity of root and root-hair traits to levels of nitrogen and other resources in A. thaliana. Consistent with their critical function in nutrient uptake, root hairs show high plasticity in response to different nutrients. The project will test the role of a recently identified inhibitor of root-hair formation in root-hair plasticity to different nutrient resources, and study natural variation of this inihibitor. To enable unbiased screens for determinants of plasticity in root-hair and other cellular traits, the project will establish high-throughput phenotyping methods based on digital microscopy and automated image analysis.
