The project examines the gender-specific production of migration through the social negotiations around emigration restrictions for women in India and Nepal. It will analyze the role of discursive and political conjunctures as well as changing gender relations and what consequences these have for those affected as well as for the production of migration. By means of a cross-country comparison of documents, events, observations and interviews, the functioning and significance of gender-differentiating migration policies and associated practices will be elaborated.
