Project Details
Phenotypic plasticity of cambial secondary growth in Brassicaceae in response to temperature and day length (A03)
Subject Area
Plant Cell and Developmental Biology
Term
since 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 512328399
A3 (Shi) investigates the plasticity of cambium stem-cell activity to temperature and day length. Most plant biomass on earth is the immediate product of secondary thickening growth driven by the cambium. The environmental responsiveness of cambium stem cells is well documented and underlies the formation of pronounced annual rings in trees. This project will exploit the variation in plasticity of secondary thickening growth in A. thaliana hypocotyls and radish roots as a powerful model to identify the genetic and molecular basis of variation in cambium plasticity using quantitative genetics supplemented by single-cell transcriptomics.
