Scanning probe microscopy has been instrumental for the development of new approaches for detection and manipulation with nanometer precision. A very important extension in the application of these new techniques results from the potential of the scanning force microscopy to measure forces of single molecule interactions and their dependence on the environment. As part of the "Schwerpunkt": 'Molecular Motors' we will apply scanning probe techniques, especially force spectroscopy, to characterise the interaction forces between genetically modified myosin molecules and actin in the absence of nucleotide and in the prescence of ADP.
