The aim of the research project is the digital edition of the correspondence of Hans Georg Gadamer (1900-2002). Gadamer is one of the most influential philosophers of the 20th century. His major work "Wahrheit und Methode" (1960) has had an enormous impact. Gadamer is a world-class German university scholar who, in addition to his professorships in Leipzig, Frankfurt am Main and Heidelberg, held visiting professorships and fellowships at US, Canadian, Italian, French and Polish universities and research institutions. His extensive correspondence (with more than 4800 persons) is a unique historical document for understanding central discourses, network formations and structural developments in the history of philosophy and science as well as the cultural, intellectual and social history of the 20th century. The project is being carried out in cooperation with the Deutsche Literaturarchiv (Marbach), the Bergische Universität Wuppertal and the Hans-Georg-Gadamer-Gesellschaft für hermeneutische Philosophie e.V. (Heidelberg).
