PyPSA (Python for Power System Analysis) is an open-source modelling framework for planning the decarbonisation of energy systems with very high shares of wind and solar generation. It is designed to model systems with high temporal and spatial detail including energy storage and sector-coupling. It is one of the most widely-used frameworks in the world, and is used by network operators, consultancies, non-governmental organisations, and research institutes. It is currently maintained at TU Berlin, where we seek to fund an experienced and independent research software engineer within this call to help maintain and enhance the useability of PyPSA. In particular, we want to (1) strongly improve the documentation and develop more extensive training materials and examples, (2) review the code base for modularisation and refactoring needs and better interoperability, (3) increase the test coverage and perform automatic data consistency checks, (4) augment tool accessibility through revised visualisation functions and strengthening community involvement, support and mentoring.
