Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 528562393
This project investigates cellular transport processes and their regulatory mechanisms in health and disease across multiple resolution scales - from the atomic and structural level, membrane transport via ion channels and transporters, to transport across epithelial barriers. Furthermore, foundations for optimizing bio-inspired nanomaterials for small molecule and ion transport will be laid. Computational modeling will provide atomistic and structural insight into protein function and modulator development, thereby bridging the experimental disciplines. The herein established methods, assays and workflows provide a solid platform for the characterization of functional consequences of polymorphisms in genes coding for transport machinery components. This Research Impulse will thereby establish an interdisciplinary life science research center for transport mechanisms and their molecular interactions in health and disease.
