Project Details
Spectral 5-Laser Cell Sorter
Subject Area
Microbiology, Virology and Immunology
Term
Funded in 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 528301049
As an extension to the existing equipment of the Flow Cytometry Core Facility of the Medical Department of the University Bonn, a high-parameter, spectral, high-speed cell sorting system housed in a biosafety cabinet is to be procured. Cell sorting requirements have increased steadily in the Flow Cytometry Core Facility over the past several years. With the acquisition of a Spectral Analytical Flow Cytometer in early 2022, the demand for cell sorting beyond 20 parameters is increasing tremendously. Currently, the Core Facility has only one cell sorting system, which is housed in a biosafety cabinet and equipped with 5 excitation lasers, that can sort a maximum of 20 parameters. This device was purchased primarily for sorting cells of biosafety level 2, is located in an S2 laboratory, and is largely utilized solely for sorting organisms of biosafety level 2. For already existing and future planned research projects from different disciplines an additional device is needed, which is able to sort more than 20 parameters, equipped with a UV excitation laser, able to process spectral data and which is able to collect up to 6 target populations. Furthermore, it is necessary that the device is housed in a biosafety workbench so that untested, human samples can also be sorted.
