Project Details
Determinants of mitochondrial cell death in virus-infected hepatocytes (A03)
Subject Area
Cell Biology
Term
since 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 471011418
Hepatocytes are type II cells, in which death receptor-induced apoptosis depends on the amplification of the signal by mitochondria. Interestingly, virally infected hepatocytes show increased susceptibility to TNF-induced apoptosis. This project will investigate how increased protein synthesis in virus-infected cells alters the mitochondrial metabolism and thereby resilience to TNF-induced hepatocyte apoptosis. Finally, the project will study why hepatitis B virus does not induce apoptosis and fails to reduce mitochondrial resilience.
