Final Report Abstract
Within this collaborative project we have identified, assembled and annotated several hundred class-1 kinesin sequences. The majority of the analysed species were from fimgi and metazoa but the dataset also included species from all major branches of the eukaryofic tree of life. Class-1 kinesins contain the first kinesins identified and represent prototypes of kinesins that move and transport cargo along microtubule filaments. Based on the sequence data ancestral fungi and metazoan kinesin motor domains have been reconstructed. Subsequently, the motor domains were produced in bacteria, purified and biochemically characterized.
