The subproject examines which spatial and functional models shape current urban expansion projects and which socio-political and professional demands are formulated and propagated in the process. On the one hand, the focus is on the extent to which current models differ from those of earlier phases. In this context, it will be investigated which urban development innovations find their way into current urban expansion projects. On the other hand, the subproject builds on previous research on guiding principles and deepens it with a view to urban planning practice. For this purpose, it will be systematically analyzed to what extent urban design elements are applied at all under different site conditions, how they are reconciled with real estate and user demands, and how they are modified in the process or, if necessary, abandoned in the practical implementation. As a contribution to the formation of urban planning theory, fundamental mechanisms of action and connections between the emergence, social discussion and implementation of planning visions in urban planning practice are to be demonstrated.
