Project Details
A genomic approach to migration and navigation in birds (Nav05*)
Subject Area
Evolution, Anthropology
Term
since 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 395940726
To achieve a comprehensive understanding of magnetoreception and vertebrate navigation, a detailed understanding of the genomic background of the organisms that we investigate on various levels is essential. This project will provide access to the complete genomic inventory of the European robin and enable molecular genomics analyses. The key objective of this project is to identify the genes responsible for migration, navigation and magnetoreception. The project will combine high throughput sequencing techniques with tracking technology and behavioural observations in a wild population within an interdisciplinary collaboration framework that is required to make major advances in this newly emerging research field.
