We apply for a versatile measuring station for the characterization of physical material properties (Physical Properties Measurement System: PPMS), such as specific heat, electrical conductivity, magnetoresistance and magnetic susceptibility. Since the system operates with a magnetic field of up to 14 Tesla and covers both the low and high temperature range (2 K < T < 1000 K), materials can be measured over a very wide parameter range. This is crucial for the fabrication of new functional and quantum materials with special electronic and magnetic properties. This universal measurement system also enables the basic characterization of crystals as a prerequisite for all further spectroscopic investigations of electronic, optical and magnetic properties. Due to its simple operation, the automatic measuring station can be used independently by different groups on the one hand; on the other hand, its great variability allows it to be adapted and expanded for very special problems of individual users. The measuring system is available to all members of the University of Stuttgart via the AMICA Core Facility.
