In this project we study the formation of free and bound small polarons, first in barium-based ferrate and cobaltate perovskites and their mixed compounds and subsequently in transition metal doped Ba2In2O5 and Zn-doped NBT-BT. The goal is to understand the effect of self-trapped charges and bound polarons on the Fermi level tolerance of these materials and accordingly to predict compositional variations, which lead to Fermi level stabilization at the desired energy.
