Households in rural Africa typically have diversified income and employment sources inside and outside of agriculture. With rapidly rising population numbers, natural resource scarcities, and ongoing structural transformation, the diversification of livelihoods will likely continue. This project collects household and employer survey data from four countries (Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, Zambia) to analyze current and future job availability, accessibility, and quality in different rural sectors. Statistical models are used to evaluate people’s participation in different types of employment and effects on income, inequality, food security, and gender roles.
