The present project proposal addresses fundamental issues for the successful industrial use of vanadium dioxide (VO2) in smart building glazing and focuses on the combinatorial deposition of quaternary thin films based on thermochromic VO2 by ion beam sputter deposition. The following characterization of the structural and optical properties will provide an understanding of the fundamental relationships between process parameters of film preparation and film properties. In this context, the optimization of dopant concentrations takes place on the basis of process-specific variables, the influence of process geometry on preferential sputtering, composition zones and dopant concentrations. The determination of the switching behavior enables an understanding of the influence of individual dopants as well as their interaction. The identification of possible synergistic effects of the dopants with a focus on sustainability will be aimed at.
