Project Details
Ultrasound device for small animals
Subject Area
Medicine
Term
Funded in 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 510051765
A small animal echocardiography device for the experimental animal unit of the Institutes of Virology, Immunology, Systems Immunology and Pharmacology and Toxicology ("VIP") is requested. The device will be used for pharmacological and biomedical projects of different users at the campus of the University of Würzburg and the University Clinic Würzburg. The requested device will be integrated into the newly organized experimental animal unit of the Institutes of Virology, Immunology and Systems Immunology, and Pharmacology and Toxicology, which, in addition to the Comprehensive Heart Failure Center (CHFC), will enable cardiovascular studies in mice and rats to be performed with the high temporal and spatial resolution required for the planned projects. The requested device will replace an old ultrasound machine (purchased in 2011). According to the manufacturer, the device to be replaced can no longer be upgraded to the current state of the art that is needed for central research questions at the site and will only be maintained by the company until 2023. Thus, the procurement of a new small animal echocardiography device is urgently indicated in order to maintain the scientific competitiveness of the respective research groups. The requested device will be integrated into ongoing animal research projects at the site and will enable new research groups to perform echocardiography studies.
